From Oct. 2000 until June 2001, Jim Sowers rode a motorcycle solo from Cape Town, South Africa to Dublin, Ireland. This was the second "moonrider" trip. The first Moonride was made across the Americas by 5 friends, one of whom was Jason Martin, a Canadian. Jason passed away after completing that trip, and the Africa trip was dedicated to his memory.
The Africa trip was originally scheduled to include four people, including Gary Kout from the first trip.
Eventually, only Jim and Stephanie Decurnex, another friend of Jason's, were able to start the trip in Africa. Unfortunately, after travelling briefly in South Africa, Stephanie became ill and returned home. Jim continued on alone, spending 8 months in Africa, and one month jamming across Europe.
* Although, on this site we label the trip as "Africa", Jim did spend a month crossing Europe, finishing in Dublin, Ireland.
